A few days before the PARIS 2024 Olympic Games, the Olympic Flame is stopping off in the Vienne, Saturday May 25 before its final destination, Paris.

As soon as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were announced, la Vienne registered as “Land of the Games 2024“. On this occasion, the Olympic Flame will pass through 7 cities of the Vienne, during a running relay on several courses 1 to 5 km long with runners every 200 m, next Saturday May 25.

Find the 8 Olympic Torch Relays in the Vienne, step by step and the tourist attractions of each town or village crossed during this exceptional day under the sign of sport, sharing and fraternity:

  • Loudun from 8:45 a.m. to 9:28 a.m.
  • Neuville-de-Poitou from 10 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.
  • Châtellerault from 11:09 a.m. to 12:06 p.m.
  • Château-Larcher from 12:28 p.m. to 12:48 p.m.
  • Montmorillon from 15:02 p.m. to 15:40 p.m.
  • Charroux from 15:57 p.m. to 16:17 p.m.
  • Poitiers from 17:27 p.m. to 18:28 p.m.
  • Futuroscope Arena and lighting of the Flame at 19:30 p.m.

Among the Bearers and Relays of the Olympic Flame in the Vienne, we will find the famous volleyball player Earvin NGAPETH, gold medal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo where he was elected best player of the final, or Rodolphe BOUIN, the President of the Management Board of Futuroscope.

The Route in detail

of the Olympic Flame

Stage 1: Departure from Loudun

From 8h45 the Olympic Flame will begin his journey in the Vienne at the Martray Public School in Loudon in the no less famous district of the same name where you can admire the magnificent Porte du Martray : only remaining door among the 4 which closed the fortified enclosure of the city.

The route will end at the municipal stadium around 9:30 a.m.

Step 2: Neuville and its vineyards

The Olympic Flame will continue its journey at 10 a.m. Neuville-de-Poitou after passing the well-known vineyards AOC Haut-Poitou. It will start from the Jean Doucet space for a loop route, lasting around twenty minutes, before continuing towards Chatellerault.

Step 3: Châtellerault, City of Art and History

A Chatellerault, the relay of the Olympic Flame will leave the Ozon market at 11:09 a.m. via avenue Pierre Abelin, before crossing the Vienne a first time and thus pass close to l'Express du Grand Atelier, museum of Art and industry and its animation “Expériences Famille".

She will again step over the Vienne to finish his race at 12:06 p.m., boulevard de Blossac near the Town Hall. If you wish to extend your visit to Châtellerault, open the door of the Blossac Theater, magnificent Italian-style theater.

Step 4: Château-Larcher, Small Town of Character

It's from rue du Pin to Chateau-Larcher, classified among Small Towns of Character for the Vienne, that the torchbearer of the Olympic Flame will leave at 12:28 p.m.

For 20 minutes, several torchbearers will cross the little city, famous for its castle and its medieval fair.

Step 5: Montmorillon and its City of Writing and Book Professions

This 5rd relay will start from the Saint-Laurent chapel to Montmorillon, on the site of the old Maison-Dieu at 15:02 p.m., will pass at the foot of the City of Writing and Book Professions, then will follow the Gartempe before finishing its race at 15:40 p.m., Place de la Victoire.

Personalized animations for all have been planned by the municipality of the Sub-Prefecture to make this day a day of sharing and fraternity on the occasion of the passage of the Olympic Flame.

Step 6: Charroux, another Small City of Character

After Chateau-Larcher, Charroux will be the 6rd stage of the Olympic Flame in the Vienne. The firster relay on the course will leave the multipurpose room at 15:57 p.m., very precisely and the last one will arrive at the foot of Saint-Sauveur Abbey and its famous Charlemagne Tower to 16 p.m.

Then, the Olympic Flame will take the direction of Poitiers...

Step 7: Poitiers, the City of 100 Bell Towers

This final step for The Olympic Flame before its lighting will begin at the Parc du Triangle d'Or in the 3 cites district at 17:27 p.m. It will go down to Le Clain, along the Promenade des Cours, thus passing the Islet of Tison and its no less famous Guinguette Pictave. It will cross the Clain via the Saint-Cyprien bridge before going up rue Jean Jaurès passing near St. Peter's Cathedral, Baptistere Saint Jean, Sainte-Croix Museum or of Espace Mendès France.

She will continue her route to the Town Hall, the Prefecture and the Departmental Council for an arrival at 18:28 p.m. Palace of the Duke of Aquitaine.

Step 8: Arrival at the Futuroscope Arena

After a journey of several kilometers through the Vienne, the Olympic Flame will arrive at Futuroscope Arena at 19:30 p.m. where the last Poitevin torchbearer will have the immense honor of lighting the Olympic cauldron.

This solemn and moving moment in the presence of numerous elected officials and anonymous people will mark the end of an exceptional day for Vienne and its inhabitants.
