Le Grand Atelier, Musée d’art et d’industrie

On the site of the former Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault since 1969, the museum occupies part of the assembly and finishing workshop built between 1886 and 1887 on a project by Duglin, artillery captain. The building, registered on the list of Historical Monuments, very functional from an industrial point of view, is made up of large spaces. By its location and its architectural quality, the museum constitutes the strong element of the whole site.
The Grand Atelier is spread over more than 3000m2 and offers three exhibition spaces:
• Auto Moto Vélo, more than two hundred vehicles and objects for more than two centuries of history of a civilization marked by the “land transport revolution”,
• The Manufacture d'armes de Châtellerault, its industrial and social history,
• Le Cabaret du Chat Noir is an invitation to dive into the poetic atmosphere of shadow theatre.
