Good news: there's another habitable planet! Shaped by man, it's home to fascinating natural landscapes and exceptional biodiversity. The second piece of good news is that it's located between Poitiers and Châtellerault and is accessible to all families. Its name? The Pinail Nature Reserve. More than just a protected area, the Reserve is the perfect experience for combining small curiosities with big discoveries. Explorer mode activated!
Meeting in unknown land
The children were itching to go. The adults were looking for a walk with a little something extra. Here you are, gathered for a wonderful afternoon in an unknown land. Not for long! You can take off your diving suit; the air here is perfectly breathable. And that's thanks to the ever-present greenery along your route. Orchids, gentians, heather, water clover: vegetation full of surprises that adore these rich, moist lands.
“Tell me, Mom, why does the bird have a big white neck?”
History secret
Did you know? The 6000 ponds that cover the Pinail Reserve haven't always existed. The culprit: human extraction of stone millstones, which left behind a landscape full of holes worthy of the surface of the moon. A little rain and a lot of sun later, the holes became ponds with a variety of inhabitants. Frogs, dragonflies, and amphibians: all's well that ends well!
Funny fauna
They say nature abhors a vacuum. Maybe that's why Mom's backpack is so full! An exploration notebook to record every sighting, binoculars to spot warblers and mirror butterflies, or a water bottle to stay hydrated in the summer sun: nothing's missing. Everything you need to make the most of the reserve's different areas. Did we mention the explanatory videos that guide you along your way?
