Place de la Liberté

The "Place de la Liberté" is its name to the Freemasons.
In 1822, it was here that General Berton, a French general of the XNUMXst Empire, was executed, accused of conspiracy. Before his death, he shouted "Vive la liberté!" Long live France ! ".
To pay homage to him, the Freemasons financed a replica of the Statue of Liberty by Bartoldi and installed it in the center of the square and became Place de la Liberté on July 14, 1903.
