A strategic building linking Touraine to Poitou, the La Roche-Posay bridge has undergone numerous modifications over the centuries. The flood of 1792 marked a major turning point in its history, destroying the medieval bridge of which only a few vestiges remain today.
Until the 19th century, a toll ferry system, located at the end of rue de la Cale, ensured the continuity of trade between the two banks of the Creuse.
