Château de la Motte
This proud 15th century château built at the meeting point of Touraine and Poitou offers brightly lit and airy surroundings and features five comfortable chambres d’hôtes tastefully decorated. If you wish you can also enjoy an aperitif followed by our Table d’Hôte dinner in the château dining room. Our candlelit dinner is a unique moment of sociable dining and mind-broadening conversation.
As a remarkable example of late medieval architecture, La Motte castle and fortress is listed as a Historical Monument.
Today, the Château de la Motte is set in wonderfully verdant grounds, full of flowers and bird song. In the middle of the grounds you will find a completely unique hanging garden. This intimate little garden, open only to our guests, is nothing other than what remains of the mound on which an even earlier feudal castle once stood. We call it the ‘haute-cour’ (high court)!
Nearby, as you stroll around the grounds you will come across the walled garden we call ‘Hortus Conclusus, our little Eden inspired by the medieval garden style, arranged around a central fountain that gives off a refreshing tinkling sound in summer. Further on, between the large pergola and a long enclosing wall built of tufa limestone, you enter the Garden of Light, a large area where dozens of varieties of vegetables are grown. And don’t forget to wander through the little orchards, our berry garden and under the ancient lime trees, and take a dip in our swimming pool during the summer.
Our reception room, a registered venue for up to 110 seated guests, is the perfect place to hold a wedding reception, seminar or other event, in fabulous surroundings.
