La Cité Historique de Lusignan
The historic city of Lusignan, capital of the canton of 2800 inhabitants, located between Futuroscope and the Poitevin marshes, cradle of the legend of the Melusine Fairy (Jean d'Arras, 1392), is endowed with a rich and harmonious monumental heritage. .
Founded in the heart of the Middle Ages, the history of Lusignan is closely linked to the powerful dynasty of its Lords, whose role is of the first order in the county of Poitou. They will be kings of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia during their epic towards the East (XII-XIV s.).
The remains of the imposing fortress (XNUMXth-XNUMXth century) which occupied a strategic position, and the old castle town stand on a rocky promontory overlooking the valley of the Vonne river and the forest of the Grand Parc.
