Abbey of Saint Martin - Ligugé
Founded in the 4th century by Saint Martin, this is one of the earliest abbeys in Gaul . Excavations have revealed a number of pre-Roman buildings, including a Gallo-Roman villa.
Visit the parish church, the monastic museum, the religious bookshop, and the exhibition of enamels created by monks.
In the cloistered church, services are famous for their slow rhythmic Gregorian chants (inquire about mass times). Nearby is the Nouaillé Maupertuis Abbey.
