Église Saint-Nicolas

The Saint-Nicolas church in Civray, dating from the XNUMXth century, is a jewel of Romanesque art. Its rectangular facade has a profusion of sculptures including the delicious Wise Virgins and Foolish Virgins and, more rarely, the Assumption of the Virgin.
Inside, it is adorned with a fresco telling the legend of Saint-Gilles. Outside, you will discover an octagonal Lantern Tower on the bedside.

Also worth seeing: the many mansions, including the Hôtel de la Prévôté. This Renaissance hotel welcomed Louis XIII and his young wife in 1616.

Nearby: historical circuit of Civray (information at the Tourist Office of Civray), the abbey of Charroux.
