Église Saint-Jean-de-Montierneuf

Back

Former abbey, the Saint-Jean-de-Montierneuf church, whose facade was redone in the XNUMXth century, dates from the XNUMXth century.
Founded by William VII, its altar was dedicated by Pope Urban II who consecrated it in 1096. A triple nave of great clarity, a raised Gothic choir and large windows give the church an astonishing light. The choir rests on the Romanesque parts of the vast ambulatory as well as the columns and a few capitals. The building, supported by flying buttresses, has a Gothic apse. Finally, two pinnacles are surprisingly reminiscent of the bell tower of Notre-Dame-la-Grande.
