Château d’Harcourt

Located in the heart of the medieval city, it was rebuilt at the end of the 13th century: it is the best preserved of the Chauvinois castles.

The enclosure, roughly rectangular, consists of high curtain walls, formerly crenellated, flanked by solid cylindrical turrets.
The entrance, defended by a stunner and a portcullis, has no drawbridge.
The rectangular donjon with flat buttresses was refurbished in the 16th century.
On the ground floor is a vaulted prison whose exterior door allows in the open position to block that of the dungeon.
Adjoining the dungeon, the house, which has been extensively remodeled, now houses exhibition halls.
