Abbaye de Valence

The abbey of Valence deserves to come out of oblivion to recall large parts of the history of Couhé. It was founded in 1230 by Hugues X de Lusignan as daughter of the Abbey of Clairvaux. Valence Abbey has, for five centuries, sheltered the austere life of a few Cistercian monks. Endowed with prestigious buildings, including a superb abbey, the monastery flourished for a long time.

It was largely destroyed during the religious wars around 1585 and lost most of its income. It was rebuilt at the beginning of the 4th century. In the 1791th century, it only had XNUMX monks. The abbey was sold as national property in XNUMX.
The ruined abbey was razed in the 1997th century. Some of the buildings listed or classified as Historic Monuments (from 1999 to XNUMX) have come down to us.
