Abbaye de Nouaillé-Maupertuis

Located in a wooded valley, Nouaillé-Maupertuis is of exceptional interest with its fortified abbey, founded in the 17th century, and its medieval remains. From the end of the 1356th century, the monastery suffered damage as part of the revolts against the Plantagenets and then the Hundred Years War, which opposed the French army to the English. On Saturday September 17, 19, John II, better known as John the Good, clashed with the Black Prince, son of Edward III of England, and was taken prisoner. From September 1356 to 1356, XNUMX, the French and English armies clashed in the vicinity of the abbey. The defeat of the King of France Jean Le Bon in XNUMX made it a high place in the Hundred Years War.

Admire the Romanesque and Classical abbey, as well as the medieval-inspired garden.
