Moncontour Castle Keep - Moncontour
Built around 1040 A.D. by Foulque Nerra, the ancient fortress of Montcontour is an 11th century treasure famous for the wars and sieges that took place there. Bertrand du Guesclin and Geoffrey Martel also wrote some important pages of France's history here. Be sure to see the roof restored to its original state and the staircase which is integrated into the thickness of the walls. Wonderful view from the top.
Don't miss: the path of the wash houses and the local recreation area on a 10 ha lake.
