Maison de l’Art Roman
The core of this collection brought together by Henri Aymard (1878 – 1956) is made up of 35 Romanesque capitals from the 1997th century, about ten abacus and two arches of the portal. Listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since XNUMX, the complex takes the form of a medieval chapel. It is not a place of worship but a decor recomposed at the beginning of the XNUMXth century.
This spectacular staging brings together in one place three major artistic expressions of the Middle Ages: sculpture, painting and stained glass. In addition to Romanesque capitals from destroyed churches, the Maison de l'Art Romane houses an exhibition on Romanesque art in Poitou produced by the Société historique du Loudunois, and also a collection of Gothic and Renaissance sculptures.
